How can geotourism grow your region?
Geotourism is increasingly recognised as a valuable tool for enhancing regional development in Australia.
Geotourism is a holistic form of nature-based tourism that is emerging and growing as a global phenomenon. Focusing on landscape and geology as a base, geotourism adds considerable content value to traditional nature-based tourism (incorporating flora and fauna as well as cultural tourism, inclusive of indigenous tourism). The Australian Geoscience Council (AGC), the Peak Council of geoscientists in Australia, is currently consulting with state/territory government agencies with the aim of developing a national strategy, and to be followed by consultation with other stakeholders such as the AGC constituent members, key government land management organisations, and the tourism industry generally.
To hear more from Angus M Robinson, now the Co-ordinator, National Geotourism Strategy for the Australian Geoscience Council Inc, come to SEGRA 2019.
